Robert Wintner, best known in Hawaii as “Snorkel Bob,” this week released his newest book, “A California Closing.”

Wintner, Hawaii’s largest outfitter, reef conservationist and author of five reef photography books, is also the author of numerous fiction and memoir books. His short fiction has appeared in Hawaii Review and Sports Illustrated. His sixteenth book was released Tuesday.

“A California Closing” is fresh, authentic and centered on Big M OK Used Car magnate Michael Mulroney. So what if he’s leveraged beyond his means, his wife drinks too much, and his neighbors peek in? A real player knows the moves and will be back on top in no time. The casts larger-than-life characters you may have met: Closer of renown Michael Mulroney and his pert wife Allison; Betty Burnham, down to her last billions and looking for love after forty years of marriage; Rose Berry, who wants to live the fantasy; and John Waldon, an art forgery swashbuckler whose skill and lust keep him on the lam.

Wintner’s previous novels include “In a Sweet Magnolia Time,” “Brainstorm: A Memoir of Cerebral Aneurysm,” and “1969 and Then Some.” He is a waterman, having sailed two oceans as a snorkeler, diver, and marine photographer, and he founded Snorkel Bob’s Hawaii.

“Reefdog,” to be released September, is Wintner’s next novel. It is an adventure romance of Hawaii and Polynesia with fishy values.
